Gutierrez to direct Relativity's THE CROW

Relativity Media, producer Edward R. Pressman and The Weinstein Company's Dimension Films banner have tapped "Before the Fall" helmer F. Javier Gutierrez to direct a reinvention of "The Crow," that will be written by Jesse Wigutow.

Brandon Lee starred in the original 1994 film, which is based on the comic book series and comic strip by James O'Barr.
"The Crow" adaptation will be a gritty reboot of the iconic character Eric Draven, who returns from the grave as The Crow on a mission to avenge his wife's murder, so that his soul can finally rest.
The project is currently in development, and Relativty plans to announce the pic's casting, start of production and targeted release date in the coming weeks.
Relativity CEO Ryan Kavanaugh is producing the pic with Pressman and Jeff Most. Relativity co-prexy Tucker Tooley ("Immortals") will exec produce with TWC principals Bob and Harvey Weinstein, as well as Dan Farah ("Armored") of Farah Films.
Gutierrez made his directorial debut with the Spanish-language apocalyptic thriller "Before the Fall" ("Tres Dias"), which premiered at the Berlinale Film Festival in 2008 and went on to win top honors at the 2008 Malaga Film Festival, as well as four awards at Scream Fest in 2009.
Gutierrez is currently developing the sci-fi thriller "The Greys" for Dimension Films.
